An app that suggests a different 30 minutes to prepare recipe every day will sweep away much obesity as morons all rush to prepare whatever they think everybody else is eating.

Re: Is it time to tax sugar?
On the estate where I grew up there is a row of shops. It used to be a newsagent followed by a pharmacy a hardware shop a chip shop a mini supermarket a hair dresser and a pub. It is now a row of take aways with the only remaining shop being the chippy.

Convenience foods and take aways. Full of sugar and unhealthy crap but fine for modern parents to feed their kids on.

Re: Is it time to tax sugar?
Obesity is indeed a consequence of energy imbalance: eating too much :)

Re: Is it time to tax sugar?
Obesity is a consequence of an energy imbalance - choice is a large part of it but not all of it.

Choice comes down to psychological factors such as motivation, mental health etc.

Your choices are dictated by your options: time available, quality of food available locally, access to green space/exercise facilities etc

Hi mate, I don't see how this still isn't a case of choice? People who are concerned and educated about their health and weight will not consistently make poor food choices regardless of their environment. Hence people walking/cycling to work, taking packed lunches and so on. Most fast food places will have a healthy, low calorie option too if you get stuck.

Re: Is it time to tax sugar?
Alex - it's not purely a case of choice.

Google Obesogenic Environment.

A tax that should be implemented is on criminals once they have done time inside they should be paying it all back through taxes for the cost of their stay, it's money back and further deterent.

Re: Is it time to tax sugar?
No, because sugar is not responsible for making people fat. People are responsible for making people fat.

Re: Is it time to tax sugar?
People can't find 30 minutes to prepare a meal when they get home from a hard day's slaving at the air conditioned office, but they CAN find 30 minutes to sit and watch real-time, live-to-air Corrie or East Enders as soon as the opening credits roll.

How the FUCK is that the fault of sugar?

Tbh it is probably more about sugars in the form of simple carbs than sugar itself.

Yes it is. Alan's self-assessment deadline will be the end of the month, same as the rest of us.

Re: Is it time to tax sugar?
Here is the document explaining what is 0% (Zero Rated or ZR) and 20% (Standard Rated or SR). Arguably there's a lot in there that should be standard rated, such as "Cakes including sponges, fruit cakes, meringues, commemorative cakes such as a wedding, anniversary or birthday cakes"
